We've just returned from a fantastic Harry Potter tour in central London. The tour was led by Joe who did a great job at showing as various filming locations used in the film and had loads of stories and interesting facts about the books, films and actors, interspersed with knowledge of London and it's sights too. Highly recommended.

We had a great tour with I think his name was Perry earlier this week, seeing all the sites that either inspired the Harry Potter books or were in the HP movies. Perry was totally funny and entertaining and charming and very good shepherding the group and knew lots of general London knowledge and gave a fantastic tour. The one teeny tiny thing I would mention, is that at the end of the tour, he recommended going to toy store Hamleys saying they had a full floor of Harry Potter merchandise. We trekked over to a different part of London to go to Hamleys only to find that it has been years since they had a floor of HP. They had a few "collectors" items in a glass case, but nothing else. So we had to trek all the way back the next day to Kings Cross to go to the Harry Potter store where we had been the day before by platform 9 3/4. But a small thing. Overall Perry was seriously fantastic and I would recommend this tour to everyone. Ours were the only kids in the group, so it's actually lots of adults doing the HP tour. And everyone in our group from teens through elderly ladies absolutely loved Perry.

We saw many inspirations for the films and Tom was able to give us lots of background information. We enjoyed the river boat trip and were pleasantly surprised at the set up at Kings Cross Station.

Just back from a weekend in London & the Harry Potter walking tour on Saturday. What a trip! Our guides Frankie & Ferry were fantastic, fun & entertaining & full of interesting Harry Potter facts and general London info. The tour is a good two & a half hours but doesn't feel that long and you don't realise how far you've walked until afterwards. I'd thoroughly recommend this to any HP fan, young or less young. Thank you so much for a fab afternoon.

A fantastic tour with an excellent tour guide. My daughter thought she knew everything there was to know about Harry Potter but Tom impressed us all with his knowledge and enthusiasm. As well as the Harry Potter sites and facts, there were many more bits of information about the city of London; other film locations and even an insight into the 'Jack the Ripper Tour' (which the kids are now begging to on). Would thoroughly recommend!

What a fantastic tour. And a bonus the rain stayed off! Meeting at Leicester Square can be a bit confusing but we soon got sorted into our groups. We had Gill as our guide, who was very chatty and friendly... and obviously a Harry potter nerd herself. She added some interesting London facts here and there which kept my dad entertained...he doesn't like Harry Potter so was dreading the tour, but even he loved it! Would recommend this tour to people wanting to learn more about this interesting city. Thanks Gill for improving our visit.

We were also informed that the tour had been put back to 4pm, and I recall Joe did apologise for the short notice in the booking.
The walk itself was interesting, and despite the rain, hail, lighting and thunder enjoyable.
Joe is an enthusiastic guide who ensured the group stayed together, took time to make sure everyone could hear and understand him.
We thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and the boat ride on the Thames was a highlight, seeing London from the river in the twilight really compensated for the rain!

I must say, what made it that extra bit special was our tour guide, Frankie. I've been on guided tours before, but this stands out from the rest. Frankie was great at building rapport with us all so quickly, and we felt very comfortable. It was very fun and he kept us engaged, entertained and well informed about the sights. I would highly recommend this tour - you get to see lot's of London's landmarks whilst visiting all the places in the HP films. The boat trip was really fun too, but wrap up warm because London in January is cold! Didn't notice it much though because we were all having such a great time. Highly recommended!

Our friendly, well-informed and entertaining tour guide Frankie took us past all the locations and 'inspirations' for the Harry Potter books and films ending up at Platform 9 3/4 - we were on our feet for the best part of 3 hours but we didn't tire because there was so much to see and enjoy that the time sped by. On a very cold day and a party of just 3, Jill; our tour guide was extremely knowledgable and friendly. After meeting at Celebrity Planet TKTN box office in Leicester Square and nipping in to Costa for a hot latte; we headed out on foot. Gill showed us many Harry Potter locations; describing each and every one in fine detail. Gill also talked about other London attractions as we past them. Despite the cold weather and small party, the tour wasn't rushed and Gill took time to make all the stops that gave a very interesting tour. A Thames river cruise (price included in the ticket) was also included in the tour; albeit short it was still very interesting to cruise the Thames for about 20 minutes. We used the tube to get to Kings Cross and see platform 9 & 3/4 (not included in ticket price) where you can have your photo taken and visit the Harry Potter shop. All in all a very enjoyable and entertaining tour hosted by a very cold but enthusiastic Gill who I'm sure will buy gloves for future tours!

30th September 2013: After we have already visited the Harry Potter Warner Bros. Studio Tour this weekend, we also had to make a trip to the London film sets. At Leicester Square collected us the likable tour guide who came fittingly from Edinburgh, Scotland. The tour combines JK Rowling's inspiration places and Warner Bros. filming locations, as well as anecdotes about the actors and information about London's most famous landmarks we passed. All in all a very entertaining tour. The three hours passed far too quickly and our feet did not even hurt. Highly recommended.

Tip: It is very helpful to book the tour in advance or pay the price in cash, because you can not pay by credit card on the spot.

    ------

This walking tour was brilliant, to be fair the evening weather made it that extra bit perfect as we were able to amble around the atmospheric back streets of london which appeared in the film. My two children absolutely adore Hazza (me, no so much) but what I really appreciated was our tour guide's knowledge of not just Harry Potter but also other British film trivia which he was able to add in alongside. Our guide, Frankie, was an incredibly lovely bloke and even with a group of about 20 on the busy streets of London he looked after us and kept us together. Great leadership skills, never leaving a man behind ! Even when my oyster card trapped me on the wrong side of the barriers he pulled out all the stops to prevent the group being separated. A great tour for myself and my granddaughter especially as she is a real Harry Potter Fan and I know very little. Our guide John was very informative and really knew his stuff not just about Harry Potter but loads of facts about London and for someone who has lived in London for over 30 years I learnt and saw loads of things I had never seen before. Would thoroughly recommend for all ages and we must have done it on the hottest day of the year.

Our family (2 adults and 4 children - age 17, 15, 13, 10) generally enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Alex, was very informative and made it interesting to everyone in the group. The pictures and video clips he showed us from the movies really added to the sights we saw. He pointed out several other interesting sights also. We felt there were too many people included in the group for a walking tour. We also would have enjoyed walking across the millennium bridge instead of the boat on the Thames.

My husband and I signed-up for the Harry Potter walking tour because our 10-year-old twin boys loved the books. Alex was our guide, and we felt very lucky. He was helpful, friendly, and full of information; He managed to make the tour interesting for my husband, who had neither read the books nor seen the movies. If we took a tour with this company again, I would definitely try to book one with Alex.

My husband and I went on this tour today with our daughter and her friend (both in early twenties). The guide was very good. He was very careful to keep us on the pavement, fit us all on to traffic islands and only cross at designated points and when the light was green for pedestrians - important when there's a large group with quite a number of primary age children. The boat trip from Embankment to Bankside had the great advantage of providing opportunities for a loo, a drink and a chance to sit down.

Ferry (apologies if the spelling is wrong) did a brilliant job of keeping a group of nearly 40 people together and making sure that he didn't start speaking until everyone had caught up and speaking loudly enough so that everyone could hear. He even kept us all together on the tube to Kings Cross, though I do wonder whether a flag on a pole or something might have given the slower walkers a little more confidence that they were following the right group. He was informative and interesting and gave us odd snippets about London as well as Harry Potter. He tried hard to make the tour informative for non-Potter fans.

Wear comfortable shoes and bring a drink and a snack with you. You might want a camera, but we didn't use ours much. Brought binoculars, but didn't use them.

The tour lasted 2 and a quarter hours rather than three, but we were quite pleased to sit down and have a late lunch by the time we finished.

by Iain Scarlett on 30 Jun 2013

Perfect weather. Nice walk. Long after a few years of working up there as a cinema projectionist at the Warner west end. Redundant when the rebuild from 5 screens to the multi screen Vue cinema back in Sept 1991. Ria gave us a tour of the sights. Amazing how much ambient noise there was at Leicester square compared to how quiet Scotland yard was. Perfect voice pitch considering the background noise on a Saturday. Shame about the wait for the boat ride on the Thames. If you are stuck again there. Just along the Embankment is something not visible anywhere else in the World. The Obelisk on Cleopatra`s needle has the Sphinx facing the obelisk. Every other location in the World has the sphinx guarding the obelisk by facing the opposite way. Excellent knowledge of where to find the nearest toilet from each location asked. For me it was nice to see a city by foot instead of the ease of public transport so close to home when in London. I have done tours before by foot in other cities & thought it was nice to hear about the area & with other films in the same locations to appreciate this amazing city i used to work in. After using a 3D camera to film the tour. My Wife can appreciate the commentary she missed as she is deaf & hard of hearing. I can appreciate the people joining the tour who added the atmosphere of being Harry Potter lookalikes by thrusting their wands at the camera. Thanks Ria for keeping the effort in throughout the tour right to the end & seeing the brief playback. Excellent.

I really enjoyed this tour!! Even my friend who knew nothing about HP really enjoyed seeing the sights, the boat trip and learning a bit about London, too. Our guide Rhiannon was very enthusiastic, funny and knowledgeable! The walking pace was just right.
I was a bit confused, however, why the boat trip was inclusive, but we had to pay for the tube trip ourselves and can't remember that being mentioned in the desciption on the website. However, it didn't distract from a great evening that lasted about 2 1/4 hours. I wished that we had more photos of the film to look at while standing outside the locations, such as the 2 Leaky Cauldron locations - whenever we were shown a photo, it really added to us being able to imagine what it was like in the film. However, I would definintely recommend this tour!

The only fault is that the tour is VERY fast paced, i was almost running most of the time. and its a shame you dont get a bit longer to take pictures or anything, because you will forget how to get back to the locations! Also, I must say, I wouldn't pay anymore than £10 for this tour.

We went as a family of four (two kids 11 and 13) on the Celebrity Planet tour and were very impressed. Ferry, our tour guide, was immense and full of info on both Harry Potter film locations as well as other snippets of general London info. He was also very funny.

I have absolutely no knowledge of Harry Potter at all, having not watched more than a half hour of the first film, but even I found it interesting. So you can imagine that my wife and children thought it was brilliant.

The tour begins in Leicester Square and lasted around 2 hours 15 minutes. There was a lot of walking involved so bring some sturdy shoes, and involved a relaxing 12 minute Thames ferry transfer as well as a tube trip to platform 9 and three quarters at Kings Cross station. Ours was conducted during horrendous rainy downpours which turned Ferry's identifying umbrella inside out, rendering it useless as a highly visible focal point, before the walk through a packed Borough Market, but he counted us all out and counted us all in again at the end.

Definitely recommended if you're a Potter fan, and still a good day out even if you're a muggle like me.

(I am not really. :) I booked this tour as I thought it would be handy to get around in a short time. 12 guests around the world (the U.S., France, etc) including us from Japan were guided by William Shabey. He is a young and a handsome English guy. Although my daughter really does not understand his English well, I translated in Japanese. On the sites where we were, she actually recalled how the site was filmed. She was so excited to visit the places and I enjoyed his friendly and knowledgeable guide. He was so kind to everyone and shares the story about other movies and the Olympics held last summer.. Celebrity Planet ought to be proud of having such a great guide like William.

I went on the Harry Potter Tour this past evening with William Ashbey and he was fantastic! Because no one else showed, I got a nice little private tour of all the Harry Potter sites about London. He brought along an iPad so we could see clips and pictures from the movies and really put it all in perspective. I came over here on a budget, but this was my one splurge item and it absolutely did not disappoint. A must for any Harry Potter fan.

Will was our guide for the harry potter walking tour today. There were 7 in our group ranging from 10 year olds to adults and 25 in the whole tour. Despite the rain Will made the tour fun and informative for everyone. He had all sorts of interesting stories and facts about the films, jk Rowling, London history, and the film industry. The tour included a short boat ride and tube ride plus a walk through the old market and past the globe theatre. He was great with all the kids on the tour. We would highly recommend this tour.

We went on the Harry Potter walking tour on a Saturday afternoon in November with Will as our guide. Overall we all loved the tour and found it very interesting and informative. Will showed us movie clips on his ipad of the places we were shown which added to the fun. The walk did move at a fast pace and would not be suitable for small children. Being a Saturday afternoon Borough Market was very busy, it would have been easy to get distracted by all the sights and sounds but as Will said "follow the wand!" The tour ended at Kings Cross Station with a photo opportunity of platform 9 3/4. If you love the Harry Potter films I would recommend this tour if you are in London and have 3 hours to spare.

Booked this walk before we went up to London. Yuki was our guide & he was excellent. He was funny with really good sense of humour, must have to walk aroung London wearing an old "sorting hat". Had a loud commanding voice, bet he is a lovely singer. Yuki was full of interesting facts about Harry Potter & made it really interesting. We saw some lovely places & Cameron Mackintosh even got on our boat for the water trip. Would recommend this walk for sure. Thank you Yuki.

    by craigyboi86 (a TripAdvisor Member) on 21 Mar 2012

Me and My friend had a couple of days on london, and the Harry potter tour was a total highlight of the whole trip!

It was ran by a brilliant tour guide, Becky. From the word go, she was personable and was great at organizing everyone (there was far too many people booked up, but she handled it well - maybe not so many at a time???) and off we went on our tour! We visited some of the actual places in London where they had filmed the ministry of magic, the leaky cauldron and the inspiration for Diagon Alley.

The best part of the tour was the boat ride, down the Thames, like in Deathly Hallows (pt1) where the dementors fly down the river, by millennium bridge! It was such a lovely day, and the boat ride was gorgeous. After that we got off further down the river, and walked for a while. There was a lot of getting on off tubes and walking, so anyone who is physically not able to handle that, this might not be the tour for you. Another highlight was platform 9 3/4 at kings cross. When I went, they were doing a lot of renovation work, but had luckily put a temporary platform 9 3/4 round the side of the station, for such a great photo opportunity!

All in all, the tour was great. It involved a lot of walking, but if your up for an adventure I'd thoroughly reccomend it. Again, Becky was brilliant - but If i had one thing to say it is that the company need to give her better reference materials, like when we were standing outside the leaky cauldron, she had picture to reference it, but it was all dog eared and handled - little details (like laminting that picture for the tour guides) that cost nothing make the whole experience better!

He was delightful, smiling, and really in control of the group. We were in a busy area, he patiently waited for everyone to arrive and then moved us to a quieter location to begin the tour.

We travelled all over London... on foot, on boat, on tube. It was great to see so many different parts of the City in relation to the Harry Potter world. I especially liked the street with the book shops and the Leadenhall market stops.

The walk is worth it. it covered a large part of london, and many of the lanes and alleys that you would not have known more about if not for this walk. The thames clipper was a great ride at night and i was also able to capture tower bridge night view zooming in from London bridge. I don't think I'll be able to find these places by myself D.I.Y if I didnt take this tour. Great walk Great guide ;-p I thought George would really look like Harry Potter if he had his glasses changed to round rimmed...but it would look strange if he was leading other tours. ha ha. good job!

Having lived in London for 14 years from 1991, I know the place pretty well but I got such a fabulous, fresh perspective on the place as well as revisiting well-loved haunts. Becky was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable and was so patient with my 8 yr old who patently thought that a good tour-ee would ask questions relating to the topic to the tour guide virtually every minute that Becky wasn't actually telling us something :-) It's great fun going to innocuous streets and then seeing Becky's photos of it as used in the HP films. Such a treat to have the riverboat trip too and we saw so many other spectacular, non-HP things too. Highly highly recommended. Kids were so entranced that they didn't grumble about the walking at all.

A big thanks to Celebrity Planet and Yuki for a nice Sunday morning walk around London. It was nice to see and hear London beyond the bus and touristy stops. We recognized some locations but were able to see and piece others together with the help of Yuki's visual aids. His voice projected so you'll be able to hear him without being directly next to him. Plus he was patient throughout the tour - waiting for my family's slow pace and others fogetting their Oyster cards.

If you have smaller children, bring a stroller and/or bring snacks and water. They will get tired. My older kid (10 years) doesn't like to walk, but had no problems with the tour. Get your Tube passes (Oyster/Travelcard) BEFORE the walk!

The boat ride was nice and could suffice as that boat ride that you should do on the Thames.

Thanks again Yuki. Learned more about HP and London!

Being such a huge Harry Potter fan, it was impossible for me to miss this chance to see the actual locations that inspired the books and where the movies were filmed.

There were few of us, but I think that only made it easier to hear what our guide, Yuki was saying, and keeping up with him and his explanations.

I really loved it! It wasn't too tiresome, the pace was steady and I got to see the street that inspired Diagon and Knockturn Alleys, which is something I've ALWAYS wanted to see/go there.

Will definitely go on more sight-seeing tours in the future! Many thanks*

My friends and I went on the Harry Potter walking tour of London, led by the excellent Yuki Tokeshi (unmissable in his enormous wizard's hat). The tour took in many of the famous and not-so-famous parts of London that have formed the backdrop to the 8 Harry Potter films. Our tourguide regaled us with many fascinating facts and stories about JK Rowling's books, and the making of the films. He certainly knew his stuff, and his voice was strong and clear enough to be easily heard above the London traffic. He was also excellent with the children in our party - encouraging one to proudly hold the tour banner in the air as we walked along, so that no one got lost! I went on the Harry Potter walk last weekend with two friends and it was a lovely walk through London, with a scenic boat ride thrown in too! Our tour guide, Yuki, was animated and engaging and was great with the kids too.

The tour was quite a long walk, lasting around 2.5 hours, but we were pre-warned right at the start and also warned about the need for a travel card. It gets a bit tiring, but even with lots of kids, pushchairs and older people, the tour guide kept us all entertained and motivated and had lots of of extra trivia about London which added a nice touch.

by JamieRo on 13 Jan 2011

We were thrilled with this walking tour of Harry Potter's London, not just as fans of the books and movies, but as newcomers to London who found themselves in Leicester Square, Scotland Yard and Trafalgar Square, on a boatride down the Thames, Bridget Jones' (and Harry's) East London, across the London Bridge and, eventually, at the real (it's really there!) Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross station. Even if you don't know much about Harry (and our multinational tour group were big fans), you'd learn more about London itself than you could imagine in just 2.5 hours. Our tour guide, James, knew his stuff - his London and his Harry - and clearly relishes the opportunity to share his beloved city. His tour was one of the highlights of our trip to London.
